Jabba The Hutt Set - Hasbro Pulse

Which worked out well. As a HasLab it could have failed. As a Pulse exclusive it's guaranteed.
Thank God it did! As excited as I was about the Barge, I'm even more excited for the Throne Room. I certainly never in a million years thought that we would see something like this, especially since we can barely get new tooling for OT figures themselves. At most I thought that we'd maybe get the BBQ accessory or something like that.

So other than the boba Fett palace what other playsets go with this set?
Playsets specifically? Or any kind of "sets" themed to Jabba?

While, I regret spending this much next year, I put it on order. I have also been putting up Premium this year, but with the expected Haslab, I might as well.

With all this Jabba love, I think it's time for Hasbro to revisit the Max Rebo Band.

Totally agree. What a treat that reveal would be at SDCC! I'm surprised they didn't save Jabba for SDCC. Makes me wonder what surprises, if anything, they have in store to reveal besides the Haslab.

I preordered Jabba. Here's the thing: Do I really need it? Well, for one of my most wanted remakes, 8D8, technically yes, but I'm fairly certain he'll be offered some other way. So do I really need it? Probably not. I mean, do I really need any toy? No, but my point is...do I "need" it for my collection? No, probably not. I have that SOTDS Jabba and I absolutely adore it. It's one of my favorite pieces in my entire collection. But, even if this is only fractionally better by a sliver, that's enough for me to get it because I'm such a fan of Jabba as a character and as a design (one of my all-time favorite roles in all of SW as well as my favorite location) that I just cannot pass this up. Plus, that TVC box is going to be gorgeous.

It's absolutely time for two items. Since they're churning out Kenner re-dos, this time Jabba, deliver the Max Rebo Band in TVC retro-inspired packaging and deliver a Jabba's Dungeon playset with, at least, EV-9D9, the torture rack and branding machine, 9D9's console, some prison cells, etc. The Max Rebo Band, meaning the original three OG members, absolutely need modernized.

Not a big fan of Jabba. Dont really care for this set. But I bought it because its part of the OT. The packaging will be on a par with everything else. The Boba Fett Throne room, I just cant get into that. Nothing jumps out at me., especially at 229. The figure isnt carded and its just a bunch of "parts" IMHO. Shoot, I havent even seen Book Of Boba Fett yet lol

So I, like a lot of people, placed a preorder for this earlier today. For some reason, I think it was stuck in my head that the throne was mounted to the dais on the BOBF set, but after looking at the pics again today, I see that it is indeed a separate piece. I have the SOTDS set, which is fantastic. I even swapped the Jabba that came with that set out for the one from the TRU Rancor set. I know the release is about a year away, but I find myself already questioning how much do I REALLY need this set? Are a few newly colored skins and a carded 8D8 worth me spending another $90? I could very easily just move all the stuff from the SOTDS set over to the BOBF and be perfectly happy. I don't know... I guess I have plenty of time to think about it.

Supposedly they’re still working on the articulation. But I guess we will see.
I’m surprised this set won’t be out for over a year. I figured this must have been in the works way back when they announced the throne room. If this was our before the end of the year it would have been ideal.

It feels like the Throne Room, which feels like a pseudo HasLab.

Let's see how many we sell by x date, add some percentage points above that to hit the next factory discount mark, close pre-orders, then place the order.

Limits the risk of excess inventory while keeping the direct-to-consumer model intact.

Hypothetically speaking, if 8D8 were to be released on a BOBF card first, say like the very end of 23 or very early 24. Would that lessen interest in this set for anyone? I only ask because while there are a few hard core OT carded collectors, I wonder just how many people only want a new 8D8.
My personal preference is for BOBF card so i have no qualms about opening it, as it would then give me the opportunity to sell of the ROTJ version to recoupe some of the cost of the Jabba set.

No, I really need a Jabba and crumb, if he comes on a bobf card I'd buy it and keep this one carded, but that's cause I like OT figures on the card

No because I'd like a few extra 8D8s and I'm not ordering a bunch of the Jabba sets to get them. I assume most of the carded collectors that care about the logo would want ROTJ for 8D8 so they'll get the Jabba set regardless. And then double dip for the BOBF re-release.

Just noticed this set is priced the same as the 6" version, except that has no dais or 8D8, or decore, how we feeling about that?

Yes, but you're getting a 17.99 RRP carded figure in the TVC version. So you're not paying the same for the Jabba.

Cost of both sets: 89.99
Subtract carded fig from cost: 17.99
Cost of 3.75 Jabba, Dais, accessories: 72

3.75 inch is 62.5% of 6 inch
62.5% of 89.99 = 56.24

72 - 56 = 16

Which means, you're paying 56 for the 3.75 inch equivalent of the 6 inch set. Plus 17.99 for the carded figure and 16 for the other things not included in the 6 inch version (Dais, pillows, plate/cups).

Looks about right to me.

As somebody who has been waiting a very long time for an 8D8 update, it really bums me out to hear that the arms are not articulated at the elbows or wrists, and the shoulders are just the outdated swivel style.

That’s not up to modern standards, and it’s definitely not up to TVC standards.

So yet again, Hasbro has cut corners on an OG96 figure. Really hope this doesn’t continue to be a pattern for them.

Agree 100% on the 8D8 disappointment. I'm considering cancelling the Jabba set as I've already got the barge Jabba and also a Dais arriving with Bibs throne room.

Heres my overly long and now really sad 8D8 story. As a child, the original 8D8 was the figure I couldn't find at retail, then one day the fair came to town and he was one of the available prizes on the 'hook a duck' amusement. But I didnt have enough cash to play enough times to get the tickets and claim the prize. I also got spat on and beaten up by a group of older kids while I was there. So I went home.

I got an advance on my allowance and went back the next day, but the figure was gone. There was a story in the Transformers comic, I think is was called 'City of Fear' where a group of derelict droids known as 'Empties' were ripped apart by zombies. In my mind 8D8 fit in with these Empties as a down on his luck droid getting crapped on by life. All of the toy franchises worked together in our playroom so mixing Star Wars and TF'S was fine.

Eventually I got the vintage 8D8 after I traded for it with a friend. We were playing with our figures on his back garden and we stopped for lunch. His dog got out onto the garden and chewed 8D8 to pieces. A fine addition to my childhood traumas.

I've always been a Star Wars 3'3/4 figure collector and bought the POTF(?) 8D8 with torture rack, but was disappointed that he was pre posed which limited the figure and actually made it a worse toy than the vintage 8D8! I've seen some great customs of articulated 8D8 and even searched to get the BG -J38 parts but only got 2 legs and 1 arm before I gave up on the crazy prices. I dont have customising skills anyway beyond head swaps, rit dye and boil and pop limbs.

So over the years whenever there's a convention, Star Wars Day or other toy announcements I'm sat in front of this computer hoping for an articulated 8D8 figure. September last year I had 2 T.I.A strokes and have been diagnosed with congenital heart disease and heart failure (thanks dad) so things haven't been great. I don't have another 20 year to wait for a new 8D8.

Then the new Jabba set was announced and MY DUDE 8D8 WAS RIGHT THERE! A closer look at the pics and 8D8 appeared to be missing the articulation that was supposed to be standard for the Vintage collection. IG-11 has amazing articulation, Hasbro has shown they can do it. I was crushed. Honestly it felt cruel, and I got more depressed.

Then I saw a post on here that the articulation might not be finalised and dared to hope, only to have it stated a few days later that the design was staying bad.

If you have read this far you will have guessed that I'm really not happy. In the grand scheme of things it wont matter to most people, but to me 8D8 isn't just a background prop that pulled a lever in Jabbas Palace. Actually this fig cant even do that as the claws are wide open.

I guess my only hope now is that Disney releases a BOBF droid set with 8D8 in it.

Eff you Hasbro.

The fact that 8D8 isn’t getting elbow articulation is dumb. In fairness, 8D8 does have some skinny arms and I could accept that Hasbro would have problems sculpting that articulation point, but … IG-11 and BG-J38 exist and have pulled off the skinny arm articulation.

They could’ve sacrificed some of the realism (they’ve done it before) to add in that articulation. I’m even fine with not having knee articulation. However, 8D8’s one major scene in ROTJ involves him moving his arms, elbows, and hands to work a torture machine. Big L on this one.

They may have been trying to imitate the actual droid design, which I'm fine with. The shoulder plate appears to swivel forward and back and the arm just below shoulder plate should move out laterally, which seems to be the case with the film droid. The most glaring omission is the elbow hinge. That shouldn't have been difficult to create. The swivel hips are fine because that's what they appear to be on film. I'd prefer the hands to be fixed in a closed position instead of that peace sign. As for the ankles, I doubt they were rocker ankles, but the knees should articulate as well as the elbows. The elbows and knees are my two gripes.

How does a figure from 2009 have more meaningful articulation than a figure in 2024? I appreciate the barbell head on 8D8, but the rest is swivel? The set cost $100 and the bulk of it is reuse. At least give 8D8 ball joint shoulders. What a let down!

As much as I want the 8D8, I already have a Jabba and dais (with a 2nd dais coming in the throne room set). And the price is absurd -- this set doesn't contain anything more than the Endor bunker did, which was all-new except parts of the included figure. But this set costs about $30 more?

Hasbro once again shows that their old design team was superior to their current one. I'd sooner 3D print an 8D8 than buy a new one with limited articulation. Or just use the vintage figure I have, which cost a lot less when I bought it loose years ago.

As well as Vader's 21-B.

I also remember Concept IG-88 which looks like it should only be 5poa but was one of the most articulated figures they ever produced. Still one of my favourites.
