Great looking Jabba barge henchman! I mean henchmen, plural, love that you do multiples. I recognize some of the parts, have to say they're pretty good choices too! I think you used a Naboo pilot (maybe Ric Olie?) for the legs, didn't go that route myself when I did this guy but I really dig that parts choice.

Wrong on both guesses! I used vedain for the upper body and vizam’s lower legs for the, well, lower legs. The boots of vedain didn’t match this barge guard but vizam’s were perfect. And vedain’s boots go perfect on vizam’s body for my final custom, coming soon!

This one gave me a realllllly hard time with the helmet. In looking at still shots of him I discovered he basically has a helmet on that appears to be covered in cloth, and then he has loose cloth coming out in the front and back. Took me a while to figure out how to try and do it. Not perfect but it’s the best I could come up with to recreate a cloth covered helmet with the flaps underneath.

The thing I was most proud of is I had to color match the collar armor piece and I managed to mix a 100% exact match! Don’t ask me how, lol. I know the colors I used but the amount of each, no clue.

Without further ado, I present This Guy!

Now I'm tempted to do a couple more versions myself. That's some clean silky-smooth painting, thought for sure you'd just used the maroon legs of ol' Ric but I'm even more impressed now......keep on cranking on the Jabba goons, they're fantastic!

Thank you very much!!

Yeah, I had kind of lost steam for a while, but then once I got going I really got going! In one night I mixed the colors for the pants, the shirt and the collar armor thingy. I always dread mixing colors cause then I feel like I have to get all the painting done in one night cause if I mess up the next day I don’t want to have to try and recreate the color! And I don’t keep track like I should if the need to recreate a color arises. This time I did have a few empty paint bottles so I poured what was left in them for touch ups but I don’t know how long they’ll last before they dry.

Keep making jabba’s goons you say? It’s funny you should say that.....

Seriously Hasbro, you’re not going to make the ONE guy to actually get a shot on Luke Skywalker???

Fine. I’ll just do it myself.

But seriously, how has Hasbro not made this guy????

I’d put this one off because he was rumored to come in the rumored follow up three pack of skiff guards so I figured well why bother if he’s coming soon. It’s been what, a couple years now, or at least it seems like it, and not a single word. I guess it’s time to move on and just do it.

Unfortunately, it's probably a safe bet they won't. :( Taym is a close second on my wish list, after the Tonnikas. The rumored three-pack with Taym would have been great, though.

I was sooooo looking forward to that! It sounded amazing. Not sure why those specific figures would have come up and then nothing. Maybe at some point down the road? But you’d think they’d do it closer to the barge and skiff releases. But then again look how they handled the carbon chamber playset and the lack of figures to go with it.

I fear the skiff has passed on these Jabba’s guys. But we can keep hoping! Meanwhile, yours do more than enough to tide you over! I’d love some! 😜

C'mon, now....I think your customs are pretty dang good, far from doodoo. ;) Some of my figures could definitely qualify as :poop:. I laughed out loud when I read your post even before you typed the last three words, I can't help but keep my eyes open for "that what she said" moments, and while this wasn't a TWSS opportunity, it was every bit as fun.

I started customizing I believe a couple of months before the start of the pandemic, which was good timing as it gave me something to do. I made a list of all the characters I wanted to do. There were 57 figures on that list (some were doubles to put in different dioramas). Here are 56 and 57. It was kind of bittersweet knowing these are my last customs, but then I just got really pissed off at how hard the rags around his face and helmet were to do!

I guess I can’t say that I’ll NEVER do another one, but I’ve only got the jabba’s palace and the barge and skiffs displays and they’re getting too crowded. And you know, commissions should anyone be interested.

I’ll have to be sure to keep up with everyone else’s custom threads, but to be honest, I’m intimidated to look at them and go oh man, that’s so much better!!

And here is Taym Dren Garen, the only person to shoot at, and actually hit, Luke Skywalker:

I love the trimmed lower tunic representing the bottom half of his armor. Very clever use of parts. 👍🏻
It’s interesting you mention that! I initially was going to try and get away with just cheating it and painting it in. But that clearly didn’t work since it’s all one piece and painting it had no dimensionality (is that a word??):

11AB0BBB-6815-431E-92E1-7B64B23A2615.png

Then it hit me and ishi tibb came to the rescue yet again and I added the curved bottom:

1C5AC2AE-03E6-4642-8415-B37277B62AEC.png

But then looking at that I thought well that’s not going to work because now the belt is sunken down and there’s a big gap between the pieces. So I had to add some more parts and make a belt but I think it definitely made a difference. I’m not sure why I thought I could get away with painting it. It looked terrible!

Here’s the final version with the extra piece added in pre-painting:

Now after realizing Wooof came out on the top deck of the barge I’m kicking myself for not having gotten an extra one back when I used to see him all the time!! I probably saw like 30 of him. And now the price is nuts! I feel like the barge won’t be complete without him though. But I guess all those years back I didn’t know we’d be getting a barge.

Some great stuff here and makes me miss the old days of customizing.
Thank you! What kind of stuff did you customize? Mainly Star Wars or other things?

I was pretty burnt out and was like finally I’m done with customizing after Taym. But then after making Taym I was like, I kind of want to make some more. So now I’m going to make some extras I think and I realized that there are three guys that look like velken, and I was like well, I know how to make velken so with some slight modifications I can make the other two... And then I’m also going to make another yotts Oren. I had bought one off eBay when I first wanted to fill out my skiff thinking it would be too hard to make. But then as I got more practice I eventually made one and while the one I bought was nice, mine was more screen accurate. So I put mine on the skiff and the other one in the palace. But now I’m like I can’t have someone else’s work in my palace! Lol. So even though he takes a LOT of parts, I’m going to make another one. Please help! I want to stop!!!

Here are the velken look alikes, and while they both have facial hair, one has goggles around his neck and apparently in Star Wars thats enough to make you a distinct character!
I guess I do see some slight differences in the facial hair and maybe the faces too.

(waves hand)You NEED a Nizuc, you don't just wanna try to make him, you actually NEED to make him. And another Yotts would be great.

Now....

Go. ;):D

...Must make nizuc and that other non goggle wearing dude who looks just like him and another yotts Oren and several extras as well (not of yotts, of other characters)...

Damnit. Your Jedi mind trick worked and then some! I thought I was out and now I’m getting pulled back in!

In fact I’ve already gotten most of the yotts Oren pieces. I think of all the customs I made he needs the most figures for parts out of all the ones I did.

Oh, and the force is apparently strong with you cause I’m also doing that bald quilted armor looking guy too that you just barely see if you’re looking to catch a glimpse of him.

Well here’s something I swore I would never do. I went back and revised a custom. It’s a slippery slope I’m on now.

This was the first custom I ever made. And I thought it looked good and I still think it looks good on the second skiff.

11C3427C-1AFB-4569-9D83-705568C2C7C6.jpeg
But after seeing more pictures of him, like the one below, while doing research for other customs, I decided to add a little more to him.

So now I present human mercenary 2.0:

Correct you are, slippery slope this is (yoda voice)!

I'd warn you about going back to fix an old custom, but I would be a complete hypocrite as I recently gave many of my old customs an upgrade.

This is the only other one I wanted to touch up. It was pretty distracting with how glossy it was whenever the light hit it and it was back before I realized I could mix paints to get the color I wanted. So now it’s less glossy, more accurate to the color in the film and I added the little scarf thing hanging down from the belt on the side which I saw it has in a picture I hadn’t seen before.

Here’s the before:

Sooo, here’s another one from the pre-mixing paint era. The blue was waaaay too glossy especially for hair. So this time around I made the hair less glossy and instead of doing the hair and pants the exact same color I added a little hint of green to the blue mix so the hair and pants aren’t the same.
