Darth Sidious - Revenge of the Sith
Limited Edition Lightsaber

Released : May 2005
Edition Size : 4,000
Display Case : Included
Retail Price : $369.00

Star Wars Episode III, Revenge of the Sith marks the first (and only) time we see Darth Sidious (Senator/Emperor Palpatine) use a Lightsaber. Master Replicas released this Darth Sidious prop replica to coincide with the release of the movie in May 2005, and it is unlike any lightsaber we have seen before.

The wizards at the Lucasfilm prop department were set the task of designing the lightsaber to be used by Ian McDiarmid during his portrayal of the Sith Lord, and what they came up with is simply stunning. Even more amazing is that Master Replicas has somehow managed to reproduce the weapon for the collectible market, maintaining it's elegant, almost organic appearance and beautiful finishes. To produce the Darth Sidious replica, Lucasfilm provided Master Replicas with one of the original props. This was then laser scanned to recreate every unique detail.

As with the other 2005 Master Replicas models, the packaging is extremely well designed with everything coming together in a relatively small box. While I really do miss the foam "presentation case" that Master Replicas used to provide, I realize that for most people it's just an extraneous extra that needs to be stored once the Lightsaber is on display, and if dropping the case enables Master Replicas to keep prices low, so be it.

Included in the black package this time are : the Lightsaber itself, mirrored display stand, clear acrylic dust cover, certificate of authenticity and prop back-story, soft cleaning cloth, Limited Edition numbered plaque and a black plastic plaque stand.

The Darth Sidious LE is an unusual size. It is 7 1/2 inches long but weighs over 1 pound. This makes it slightly longer than the Yoda ROTS LE but nearly twice the weight. It was clearly designed to be a 1-handed saber, as there is no way an adult could grip the handle easily with 2 hands. Construction is entirely metal with the exception of the 2 LEDs (one green, one red) on the sides.

Besides it's size, the finish of the Darth Sidious LE is what really makes it stand out on a shelf with other Lightsabers. Featuring an antiqued brass emitter, 18k gold plated accents, a highly polished chrome section and a simply beautiful prismatic finished body, the Sidious LE just exudes class. There is nothing that can compare to the look of this Lightsaber, not even the much heralded Mace Windu Signature Edition. I really can't stress enough how impressive the Darth Sidious LE is - but keep that cleaning cloth handy to wipe off the finger prints.

Like many people I was anxious to see what the Lightsaber of the most powerful Sith Lord would look like, and Lucasfilm didn't disappoint. Master Replicas has managed to recreate the movie prop accurately and the result is a wonderful piece of Star Wars history for collectors to admire for years to come. Display it alone, or in a dueling set with the Yoda ROTS LE, either way the Darth Sidious LE deserves a place in every MR collector's display.
